Moss art ocean wall art with mermaid detail – preserved moss resin panel by Rish Studio

The Girl Who Brought the Ocean Home

I’ve always been a collector of "almosts." Almost-perfect seashells, pieces of driftwood that looked like sleeping dragons, and stones that felt warm even in the dead of winter. Growing up, I was the girl who spent her weekends with her pockets full of sea-glass and her head full of myths.

I remember reading those classic tales of mermaids, the ones where they’d sit on jagged rocks, combing their hair with the teeth of whales, watching ships vanish over the horizon. I wanted that. I wanted the salty spray, the secret language of the tides, and the feeling that if I just walked far enough into the surf, I might find a doorway to a city made of pearl.

But life, as it happens, kept me on land. It kept me in houses with walls that didn't let the ocean in.

That’s why I started creating these.

I wanted to capture that feeling—not just the look of the ocean, but the story of it. When I’m crafting these pieces, I’m not just mixing resin and arranging moss. I’m building a memory of that hidden underwater world I used to dream about.

I take the deep, quiet velvet of the forest moss and let it meet the crashing, electric blues of a resin sea. And then, there’s the detail that always makes me smile: the tiny, shimmering tail of a mermaid, caught mid-swish in a frozen wave.

People ask me why I put so much effort into something that isn't alive. And I tell them, it is alive. The moss holds its breath, the resin keeps the waves from ever breaking, and the mermaid stays forever in her moment of magic.

It’s for the girl who still checks for treasures in her pockets. It’s for the office worker who needs to remember that there’s a whole world of wonder beneath the surface of the daily grind.

When you hang one of these on your wall, you aren't just decorating a space. You’re inviting a piece of the fantasy inside. You’re telling yourself that no matter how far you are from the shore, the magic is still within reach.

So, go ahead—take a look. Maybe you’ll find that the mermaid I tucked away in the waves has been waiting for you all along.

Do you have a favorite childhood myth or story that still inspires your home or your imagination today?
